Customer always Right? Yeah, right!

We all know that when it comes to customer service, customer is always right even though they are wrong. I do agree with that, giving the best service to customer so that the customer would remain loyal with the company, telcos and so on. As a customer myself, I don't think I am that fussy nor choosy in an irritating way.

I was shopping for a new pair of sandals in a shoe shop for trip to Bandung this coming week when there was a customer who came in complaining that she was brainwashed into buying a low quality product. She came into the shop making a scene while other customers (including I) were in the shoe shop. You see, I've been purchasing my shoes from that shop ever since it opened in the shopping complex. I know what kind of quality of shoes they offer the customers and of course at a reasonable price.

She brought in two pair of shoes which she bought LAST YEAR, and kept in the shoe rack or shoe cabinet until A MONTH AGO when she came back from abroad and wore them once and the shoes went "wrinkly and flaky". Of course, as a regular customer, due to curiosity, I inspected the shoes. One pair was not worn only once but lots of time, while the other pair yes, it was worn once.

She even said she is so-and-so lecturer from U***, S*** A***. As a customer, yes, of course she can complain if she is not satisfied with the product. But bringing in 2 pair of shoes she bought last year and making a scene in the shop while other customers were around only reflects her "stupidity". I used the word "stupidity" because she used the phrase "perempuan cina bodoh" to describe the owner. She was verbally impolite.

According to her, she deserved to get another pair shoes at a discounted price. (The shop is having a sales up to 30% disc) She wanted a higher discount rate. I wouldn't entertain her if I was working there. I wouldn't want her to purchase shoes in the shop even if I was the owner! When hr request was not entertain, she was angry and "this is not the way aunty should treat her customers, I banyak lagi kawan beli kasut dekat sini. Bukan saya seorang saja. I akan bagitau kawan saya jangan beli kasut di sini lagi." and left the shop.

But then, she came in again. "Nah, ini kasut kasi aunty tengok. Kasut ni dah rosak. Mana ada macam tu, letak dalam shoe rack, tak pakai pun boleh rosak. Mana boleh cakap macam itu, banyak excuses. I'm fed up. Saya pun tau buat bisnes. Bapa saya bisnesman. Kita tau la macam mana nak jaga customer. Perempuan cina bodoh yg tak tau buat bisnes."
Fuh..when I heard "perempuan cina bodoh" being uttered from the mouth of the lecturer because of the shoes she bought last year and gone rotten in the shoe cabinet or shoe rack. I froze. I was speechless then. The word "bodoh" aka "stupid" is a taboo in the teaching/lecturing industry. I wonder how angry she was because of the shoes. As aunty's customer who witness this incident, I think that lecturer has made herself look bad. 好像泼妇骂街。 一点教养都没有。还说是个大学教授。 真丢脸。

According to the supervisor, this was not the first time she entered the shop and make a living hell for the sale assistants. She once came in with a pair of 2-inch-heels she bought from the same shop and wanted to change to another pair, saying her husband did not like her wearing heels that were too high. So, the supervisor suggested a-1.5-inch-heels but she said it was too low. So, if I were them...I wouldn't know how to handle a customer like this. The supervisor also said that, the lady wanted to change the shoes without paying. So...I don't really want to know what happened after that.

monologku: lecturer my a$$!
